Giro d'Italia

The Giro is one of the world's largest cycling races hosting 200 elite cyclists from over 30 countries around the globe and it's coming right to your door step. 

Hosting this epic spectacle on the final day of the Northern Ireland stages provides a massive opportunity to profile Armagh city and the towns and villages along the race route. The race will start from the Mall on Sunday 11 May. 

In advance of the big start from the Mall, cyclists will make their way through Armagh's historic city streets as part of a “mini trial”, departing from the Shambles through Dawson Street, Irish Street, Ogle Street, Thomas Street, Market Street, Russell Street, convening at the Mall for the Grand start.

Other sports, such as soccer, have separate organising bodies in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. At the Olympics, a person from Northern Ireland can choose to represent either the Great Britain team or the Ireland team. Also as Northern Ireland is a Home Nation of the United Kingdom it also sends a Northern Ireland Team to the Commonwealth Games every four years.
